Northeast Employee's Basic Guide for 1Password

Getting Started with 1Password

1Password is a password manager that helps you securely store, manage, and autofill your login credentials and other sensitive data. This guide will walk you through the basics of using 1Password effectively.

Creating an Account

  1. Please contact the Service Center to get your account recovered.
  2. Your Northeast employee 1Password account is linked to your Northeast account and will use SSO (single sign-on).

Understanding Vaults

1Password vaults are secure, encrypted storage spaces where you keep passwords, sensitive documents and other private information. Think of them like digital folders that help you organize and control access to your stored data.

  1. Use an Employee Vault for logins and credentials that are only for you, like your personal work email or assigned accounts. All Northeast employees will have an Employee Vault in their Northeast 1Password.
  2. Use a Shared Vault for logins that multiple team members need, like a company social media account or shared database access.
    1. If your department would like to have a Shared Vault created, please reach out to Service Center.
  3. Northeast allows employees and students to also create a separate personal account for a Personal Vault on 1Password for free. Your Personal Vault is a private vault that only you can access. Ideal for storing personal logins, credit cards, and notes.
