Setting up MFA - Microsoft Authenticator App
1. You will be prompted to set up MFA using the Microsoft Authenticator App. To set up MFA with the App select, “Next on your screen”.

2. Remain on the “Set up Your Account” page while you set up the Authenticator App on your mobile device. You will need to go to your phone’s app store and install the App.

3. Open the Microsoft Authenticator App, select to allow notifications (if prompted), select “Add Account” from the Customize and control icon on the upper right corner and select, “Work or School Account”.
4. Return to the, “Set up Your Account Page” on your computer and then select, “Next”. The “Scan the QR Code” page appears. You may be prompted to allow your camera access. You will need to ALLOW it. Scan the provided code with your Microsoft Authenticator App QR code reader, which appeared on your mobile device after you created your work or school account. After scanning select, “Next”.

5. The Authenticator app should be successfully added to your work or school account without requiring additional information. A notification is sent to the Microsoft Authenticator App on your mobile device, to test your account. Looks like the picture below. Select, “Next”.

6. Approve the notification in your Microsoft Authenticator App, then select “Next”. Your security Info is updated to use the app by default to verify your identity when using two-step verification or password reset. Will look like the below picture once approved and ready. Select “Next”. You will be logged into your account displaying all your apps.

Setting up MFA - Microsoft Authenticator Passkey
A passkey is a passwordless sign-in method that uses your device's fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN to securely verify your identity. Passkeys provide stronger security than passwords or text message verification codes and help protect against phishing attacks.
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Tap the + (Add Account) button.
- Select Work or School Account.
- Select Sign In and enter your Northeast email address.
- Complete the MFA verification when prompted.
- Follow the prompts to allow Microsoft Authenticator to be used as a passkey provider on your device.
- Finish the setup process and select Done.
- Your passkey is now registered and ready to use.
Verify Your Passkey
- Open a private/incognito browser window.
- Go to Microsoft 365 and begin signing in.
- Enter your Northeast email address.
- When prompted, choose Sign-in options and select the passkey option.
- Approve the sign-in using your phone's fingerprint, face recognition, or PIN.
