Northeast Community College is committed to maintaining efficient and secure technology for our entire community. As part of this commitment, we are working on transitioning our Windows computers from Windows 10 to Windows 11. This upgrade ensures continued:
-
Security: With Microsoft ending support for Windows 10 in October 2025, upgrading to Windows 11 is crucial for staying protected from the latest cyber threats.
-
Software compatibility: Windows 11 supports newer applications and hardware, ensuring long-term compatibility with evolving technology.
-
Performance: Windows 11 boasts improved performance and stability compared to its predecessor, enhancing your overall computing experience.
We understand this change might raise questions, so we have addressed key points below:
What You Need to Know:
-
Upgrade timeline: Our journey started mid-2023 with all new computers receiving Windows 11. We are currently identifying low-impact locations that can be upgraded throughout the spring and we will be dramatically increasing the upgrade cadence over the summer months, expecting most computers to be on Windows 11 by fall 2024.
-
Upgrade Experience: For most computers, transitioning to Windows 11 is a quick and easy experience, taking about 10 minutes and feeling much like installing regular updates or patches (you know, when your computer is annoying you because it wants to reboot).
-
Evaluation time: We are providing advance notice to help you assess potential impacts on your curriculum, teaching, and workflow.
