Purpose
Microsoft automatically disables content in Access files when you don't create them. Here are some methods to work around this.
Procedures
Method 1: Unblock a Single File
NOTE: This method will have to be repeated for every Access file that is downloaded.
Step 1
Navigate to your Downloads folder, or the folder that has the blocked Access file.
Step 2
For Windows 11:
Right click the file
Click "Show More Options"
Click "Properties"
For Windows 10 or below:
Right click the file
Click "Properties"
Step 3
Check the box that says "Unblock" then click OK
You can now open the file and access everything.
Method 2: Adding a Trusted Location
NOTE: After doing this method, you won't have to worry about blocked Access files but is less secure.
Step 1
Open Access
Click File in the top right
Click Options in the bottom right
Step 2
Click "Trust Center" on the right hand side
Click "Trust Center Settings"
Step 3
Click "Trusted Locations"
Click "Add new location"
Step 4
Click "Browse" and navigate to your Downloads folder, or the folder containing the Access file
After navigating to the Downloads folder, click OK three times
Reopen the Access file and you will be able to use the content from this file and all other Access files in said folder.
